07 Feb Teacher Thoughts part 2
For the second edition of Teacher Thoughts, we get to hear from Sarah Robenhorst, a 5th-grade mathematics teacher at Guerrero Thompson Elementary in Austin. See below for her thoughts on taking field trips to The Outdoor School.
TOS: What is your favorite part of the TOS experience?
Ms. Robenhorst: Our favorite part of the TOS experience is the fact that every aspect of it is new and exciting for our kids. A lot of them are leaving their parents for the first time. The activities they do while there they have never done before and wouldn’t have the opportunity to do unless we go to camp.
Do you have a favorite class/ activity that you look forward to each year?
Every year we look forward to the high ropes course. We love seeing the kids try something scary and new and love it. We love seeing how they push themselves.
How does the field trip impact the students, do you see any change in them after the trip?
We see the impact for the rest of the year in their excitement and willingness to try new things. We also see new friendships form.
Anything else you would like to add about the TOS experience?
We love camp, we look forward to it every year. We were super sad to miss it last year and we are so happy to offer it to our kids this year.
Thank you! We are excited to have Guerrero Thompson back this year too!
